GEORGE J. KONTOGIANNIS

Born in 1940 in Martin's Ferry, Ohio, George Kontogiannis moved to Columbus over 20 years ago. A graduate of Yorkville High School, he received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He took state exams and was registered in 1965, a good three years ahead of the normal five-year wait.

After a short career with Kellam-Foley and the State of Ohio, George opened his own business, George J. Kontogiannis and Associates, in 1968. Today the firm is located in One Americana at 400 South 5th Street, a building of their own design.

One of three children, George has his ancestral roots in Chios. When word came that Annunciation was proposing a new worship facility, he became immediately interested and offered his services. Working with Randy Woodings, they came up with a proposal which was accepted by the community.

Construction begins in early 1988. Mr. Kontogiannis has pledged that all architectural work, advice, renderings and consultations will be done at no cost to the church. He looks forward to the completion of the project and the satisfaction of a job well done. He wants to see the complex utilized

fully, hoping to see a center where our youth can keep their ties to one another and where our church will be a beacon of faith to our own people and to all of Columbus.

JIM WRIGHT

A native of Portsmouth, Ohio, Jim Wright graduated from Clay Township High School. He was the fourth in a family of six children. He came to Columbus on Pearl Harbor Day, 1941. About a year later he volunteered for the U. S. Navy, serving as a Seabee in the Pacific Theater.

After the war he returned to Ohio where he met Ann Barbour. They were married in 1948 and have three daughters: Toni, Stephanie, and Jamie.

In 1953 Jim joined with one of his brothers to form the Wright Brothers Excavating Company. They excavate for every type of construction imaginable. Located at 1084 Ridge Street in the Grandview area, they have about 18 employees.

Jim has offered to do all excavating necessary for our cathedral project. They will be the first ones there to dig for placement of utilities, and they will be the last ones there to smooth off the area for the parking lot. Jim has generously offered to do all this work for free. He is glad and proud to help his church.
