FATHER SARRIS

The spiritual leader for Annunciation for the past 25 years has been Fr. Anthony P. Sarris, Born in New Britain' Connecticut, in 1926 he has two sisters and one brother. While growing up there, Anthony's priest was Fr. George Gallos (married to Anna Gallos the composer), who had some influence in directing him toward the priesthood.
After completing high school Anthony entered Holy Cross Seminary in Brookline Massa-chusetts, graduating in 1949. On October 9 of that same year he married Marie Kaloss of Scranton, Pennsylvania. On December 4 he was ordained into the priesthood.

Their first pastorate was in Webster Massa-chusetts, where they remained six years During this time their son Michael was born. They then moved to Decatur, Illinois, and served there for seven years during which time Stephanie was born.

In March, 1962, the family moved to Columbus and is serving the community yet today. When Fr. Sarris arrived, there were approximately 300-400 families. We have since grown to around 800 families. Father Sarris has never missed a Liturgy due to illness.

Fr. Sarris is greatly supported by his Presbytera. Marie grew up in Scranton where the parish priest was Fr. Basil S. Gregory Fr Gregory's wife is the sister of Anthony Sarris. When visiting Scranton, Anthony was introduced to Marie, and they were married later that year. Both the Gregory and Sarris families remain very close today.

Presbytera Sarris has a clear sense of her role as the wife of a priest. She has always been understanding of her husband's demanding schedule. In addition, she willingly helps out when anyone needs assistance. A modest woman who shuns the spotlight, she is very kind in her dealings with people.

Father and Presbytera have had a very satisfying life in the ministry and cannot imagine themselves doing anything else. Neither speaks of retirement. They have made four trips to the Holy Land and were deeply honored in 1968 to be in the presence of patriarch Athenagoras in Istanbul. Both Father and Presbytera have gentle spirits, and we consider them AXIOI.
